What is a Social Care Practitioner?

A Social Care Practitioner is an individual who works closely with foster carers or families to assess their suitability to foster, as well as providing any necessary support. As a Social Care Practitioner, you will be expected to provide potential and existing fostering families with information and support, as well as the support of others you deem beneficial to each placement. As a Social Care Practitioner, you will be one of a multi-disciplinary team of various support workers, therapists and education officers who will meet regularly to discuss how to go about providing the appropriate support to the child or young person. For these meetings the Social Care Practitioner will be expected to assess and review the situation of the fostering carer or family at hand so as to provide their placement with the best suited care.
