Making a difference in Voluntary Services

Background Information

Our voluntary sector client had advertised for a Middle Management role, using a marketing organisation for their advert and received no responses. They had lost valuable time, money and Senior Management resources whilst trying to recruit.

Purpose

To manage the whole recruitment campaign including advert design, selection of media stream, screening and short listing of suitable applicants for interview.

Aims and Objectives

To produce a short list of four suitable applicants for interview for a part time, permanent middle management post.

Established Practice

Outcomes UK re-designed the advert and negotiated competitive rates for identified media streams. We screened all applicants against the person specification of the role as they applied. We kept the client informed and enabled them to have input into selection, whilst taking away the time
consuming administrative elements of the recruitment campaign.

Activities Delivered

The project was completed using the following

  • Advert design.
  • Identification of appropriate media streams and negotiation of discounted rates.
  • Management of advert response.
  • Screening of applicants against person specification.
  • Client meetings to feedback and enable client to have input on selection process.
  • Short list of suitable applicants.
  • Design and co-ordination of Assessment Centre and Interview Day.
  • Provision of support to applicants throughout recruitment process.
  • Maintenance of contact with successful applicant once offer made to ‘keep warm’.

Methodology and Tools

The methodology and techniques used in the assignment included a combination of in-house, bespoke and external tools

  • Existing OUK tools
  • Tools derived from elsewhere
  • Specifically developed for the assignment

Conclusions and Recommendations

Four short listed applicants were successful through to interview stage, with the right applicant being appointed. The client saved time and money whilst still feeling involved in the selection process.

Transferable Benefits

This model has been applied to clients in the voluntary, private and statutory sectors. All clients have felt that the process has saved them time and money; the right applicants have been appointed and the applicants have felt
supported throughout the process.
